On September 17th, Axis Promotions hosted their first Product Safety and Compliance Summit in New York City, bringing together over 60 clients and 20 top suppliers for a day of networking and product safety education. This event was the first of its kind, geared at bringing Axis' clients into a safe space with suppliers where they could ask questions and learn more about brand protection and how the ever-changing product safety laws affect their marketing and premium programs.

Clients were treated to an end-user exhibition and panel discussions on a variety of topics including branding protection; Prop 65; how, when and why to test products; the effectiveness of promotional products and the future of product safety. Axis provided clients with custom journals giving them a product safety checklist and a glossary of tricky compliance terminology, with the hope that clients walked away feeling confident that they were armed with the right tools to source safe premiums.
Joan Landorf, Axis’ EVP, says, "We wanted to offer a framework for approaching product safety and compliance, and to clearly provide our clients the questions they should be asking to make sure their vendors are producing safe products from socially compliant factories.”
Shamini Peter, Axis’ product safety and compliance director, is a member of PPAI’s Product Responsibility Action Group (PRAG) and works to educate the company’s clients and suppliers on product safety issues. She says, “We felt that clients needed to get educated in this area and how it would affect their brands reputation. While most of our clients would say, ‘I don’t give out children’s product, so it does not matter to me,’ this summit allowed them to look at things in a different manner and the real negative publicity their brands could experience if they did not stop and think about the consumers in general, whether it be a child or an adult. We also taught them that nationwide, states are out of control so while one protocol may work in one state it may very well not in another."
